Day 3 - Füssen - Castle Neuschwanstein - Linderhof Castle

In the morning departure to Füssen. From Fuessen it is only a short trip to Hohenschwangau and the fairytale castle of King Ludwig II, Neuschwanstein, which we will visit in the morning. The Neuschwanstein Castle is one most visited castles in Germany and one of the most popular tourist destination in Europe. The castle is located in Bavaria, near the town of Fussen. It was built by King Ludwig II of Bavaria, also known as the “Fairytale King”. The castle was equipped with all kinds of technical conveniences which were very modern, if not to say revolutionary at that time. Running water on all floors. The spring which supplied the castle with excellent drinking water was located 200 meters above the castle. There were toilets equipped with automatic flushing on every floor. A warm air heating system for the entire building. A hot water system for the kitchen and the bath. The entire facade of the castle was covered with slabs of limestone. This material was found in Alterschrofen near Swan Lake (Swansee). The supporting walls were built of brick. American tourists are already familiar with Neuschwanstein; the sleeping beauty Castle in Disney Land, was modeled on it.

We continue to Linderhof Castle, less known but even more beautiful than Neuschwanstein.
King Ludwig II commissioned the construction of three castles during his reign, but it was only in Linderhof Castle that he spent any significant amount of time. Compared to the other of Ludwig"s castles Linderhof stands in start contrast. Where Neuschwanstein is elegant and tall, perched upon the slopes of the Alps, Linderhof initially started small. The grounds outside the castle are quite gorgeous featuring terraced gardens. Be on the lookout for some footpaths that can lead to some spectacular views of the castle. Perhaps the single most impressive features outside is the Linderhof castle fountain and the many statues that dot the grounds. The golden statue of Flora and her attendees, located in the middle of the prominent Linderhof castle fountain in front of the castle, will frequently spout water upward of a hundred feet into the air.

In the afternoon we depart to Salzburg. Overnight in Salzburg.

This area is the most photographed lake in Austria and is located in the resort area of the calles “Salzkammergut”. The river Traun, a forceful 153-km long watercourse, flows through it. You may have heard of the Hallstatt culture of the Iron Age it was named after this village. This is due to the fact that it was one of the first places settled by humans in the world. The Salzkammergut region has rich salt deposits, and the main ones were near this village. A prime attraction in the village is Hallstatt Salt World. Guided tours of this mine are available. The display is developed in multimedia format with a light show, talking figures and videos. There are also wooden toboggans, which you can use to slide down the floors. This mine is located on top of a hill above the village. It is accessible by cable lift or on foot. In terms of historical architecture Hallstatt boasts two notable buildings the Catholic Ascension of Our Lady church and a neo-Gothic Protestant church. The Catholic parish church perches on a rock above the lake. It was built in the Gothic style in the late 15th century, replacing a church from 1320 at that location.
